Students belonging to the Unity Club of Kiziguro Secondary School in Gatsibo district, Eastern Province believe in helping one another. Their main objective is to fund those students from poor families in the school.
Students belonging to the Unity Club of Kiziguro Secondary School in Gatsibo district, Eastern Province believe in helping one another. Their main objective is to fund those students from poor families in the school.
Once every term, these students bring various necessities to support those who cannot afford. These include; soap, scholastics materials like books and pens and also contribute some amount of money for poor students.
During an interview with the Headmaster of the school Fr. Isidore Karinijabo, he said that they started this activity to meet student’s needs.
"After we realized that some students come to school without any or enough scholastic materials, while others have enough and some extra money, we found that it would be better if those students with enough materials helped those ones from poor families,” Fr. Karinijabo said.
The school’s headmaster said that, "all students participate willingly.”
Not only are students involved but the school’s teaching staff whose support is limitless participate alongside the Unity Club’s good will to help. The school also receives support from the neighbouring community which includes traders and other visiting guests from outside of the country.
"Through this school activity we have paid school fees for students from poor families and we will never abandon such a culture of helping each other,” Fr. Karinijabo said.
Deborah Mpumugeni is one of the students who benefits from this support. She said that she is glad to be one of the students helped by the Unity Club.
"It is so important for me and others,” Mpumugeni said.
Vivax Shema a senior four student said that it is wonderful for him to help his classmates; adding that it is even much better when it’s done willingly with love.
"I can’t be happy and enjoy while other students are suffering because of poverty. It is better to give as much as you possibly can in order to help,” Shema said.
Fr. Karinijabo urged students to continue developing the good habit of helping. He believes that through this activity, unity and reconciliation can be achieved among the students.
