Kigali will, from July 14-19, welcome women tennis players from across 12 African countries including host nation Rwanda for the 2025 Billie Jean King Cup Group IV.
The international women’s tennis tournament will take place at the IPRC-Kigali EcologyTennis courts.
In the 2024 edition, Rwanda finished in fifth place while Algeria claimed the top spot and earned promotion to Group III.
Participating countries for the 2025 edition in Group IV include Benin, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Senegal, Chad, Sudan, Togo, Tanzania, and hosts Rwanda.
Before the tournament begins, a draw will be held in Kigali to pool the 12 nations into two groups, one of which will consist of six teams.
Each national team will include four players. On match day, teams face off in three matches—two singles and one doubles. Each match is worth one point, and the team that wins two out of the three matches is declared the overall winner of the tie.
The Billie Jean King Cup, formerly known as the Fed Cup, is named after American tennis legend Billie Jean King. The tournament is played in groups, based on the international rankings of participating countries.
This marks the third consecutive year that Rwanda will host the tournament, having made its debut appearance in 2021 when the national team traveled to Lithuania.
