Shall we ever know how many people died in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi?

Editor,

15 years have now passed since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi took place.  I do not like the fact that nobody knows the correct number of those who passed away in 1994.

Some people might not understand why I think finding the correct figure is important.

International media always say " almost 800 thousands Tutsis were killed”.

The authorities and various associations in Rwanda add some 200 thousand and say "more than a million”. What are all these figures based on?

We have a National Institute of Statistics, and I am sure they conducted research and surveys to find out the truth. Have they ever done so and if so, did they get any findings? If yes, where can we get these?

We need to get proper figures, otherwise, we might end mixing up those who were killed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and those who died under some other circumstances during that period. I beg whoever may have information to help me.

Thanks.
