RWANDA’S national football federation has until now failed to get sponsors for the 2009/10 league season which begun over the weekend.

The football federation boss, Brig. Gen. Jean Bosco Kazura told Times Sport recently that they failed to acquire the sponsor in time for the league start, but remains optimistic the problem may be solved in due course of the season.

"We are still in talks with some potential companies but we have not reached an agreement. The league will have to continue with or without any sponsor.

"We have managed to run the league without any sponsor for the past three seasons and we will use the available resources to make it more successfully this season whether a sponsor is available or not,” Kazura said.

The league has done without a sponsor in the last three years, stretching the federation’s budget while making the championship less competitive.

Persistent failure to acquire a league sponsor has crippled Ferwafa’s activities.

It has deprived the league of its competitiveness, and also led to the federation to stop awarding top performers, like the best player, coach and top scorer.

The league last had a sponsor during the 2005-06 season, when Bralirwa, through its Primus brand, was brought on board.

Reports from credible sources indicate that Bralirwa and Telecom Giants MTN are in line to secure rights for the National Football League and Peace Cup sponsorships before the year ends.
