FRANCE - A man who actively participated in the killings in Butare University and surrounding areas, has been passively working in a French hospital in Maubeuge (Nord) in Lille. Eugene Rwamucyo, a medical doctor who has been on the Interpol Red Notice since 2006, was discovered accidentally by one of his enraged patients. The wanted Genocide suspect allegedly made some unkind remarks over his patient’s weight which raised the latter’s suspicion. When she returned home, the patient asked her husband to research Rwamucyo on Google because there was something about him that made her uncomfortable, and bingo! Not only was the man a wanted war criminal, but he was in 2008 a subject of investigations by Paris judicial authorities for his role in the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi, together with Agathe Habyarimana, Dominique Ntawukuriryayo and Callixte Mbarushimana.

They informed the hospital authorities who have since suspended Rwamucyo indefinitely.
Rwamucyo’s request for asylum was turned down by French authorities in 2003 because there was strong evidence that he had participated in the Genocide, and had been one of the leaders of the RDR, an organization that was form in the former Zaire (Dr Congo) by organizers of the Genocide.
But with the help of that MP of Nord, Thierry Lazarro, managed to get his papers.
Lazzaro told the press that "high placed” French officials had intervened on his behalf.
Born in the former Ruhengeri, Northern Province, Rwamucyo was educated in the former Soviet Union, and on his return, worked at the National University of Rwanda and was appointed Head of Public Health and chief Doctor at the University Hospital.
Rwamucyo is accused of organizing the killings of Tutsi Students as well as patients at the hospital, most of who were dragged out of their beds to be hacked to death in a nearby forest.
He is also alleged to have been a member of an extremist group that included the likes of Ferdinand Nahimana, who was convicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and was sentenced to 30 years in Prison.
