RPF, Chinese province sign agreements on school establishment, museum management

The Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) on Friday, June 20, signed two cooperation agreements with the Communist Party of China (CPC), specifically with the Shaanxi Provincial Committee and the Secretariat of the CPC Yan'an Municipal Committee.

The agreements were signed by RPF Secretary General Wellars Gasamagera and Hao Huijie, the Secretary of the CPC Yan’an Municipal Committee. One of the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) focuses on museum management, emphasizing exchange and collaboration between the Yan’an Revolutionary Memorial Sites Management Bureau and Rwanda Cultural Heritage Academy.

Yan’an, located in China’s Shaanbei region of Shaanxi province, is a city of historical importance as it housed the former headquarters of the CPC, and is considered the birthplace of the Chinese revolution.

The second MoU focuses on the establishment of a political school in Rwanda to foster cooperation and knowledge exchange between the RPF and the CPC Yan’an Committee’s party school.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Gasamagera highlighted the CPC’s role in China’s transformation, noting that it offers valuable lessons for Rwanda’s development path.

He pointed out that the new agreements will enhance capacity building for RPF members and promote mutual learning through the histories of China and Rwanda.

He invited further collaboration between the two parties in areas such as infrastructure development, green energy, trade and investment, and agricultural mechanization.

Hao Huijie, in his remarks, stressed Yan’an’s strategic role as a tourism destination rooted in revolutionary history. The city was the endpoint of the Long March and served as the center of the Chinese Communist Revolution from 1935 to 1947.

He praised Rwanda as "an economic development miracle in Africa” and called for increased partnership in revolution tourism, heritage preservation, trade, and people-to-people exchanges.

"We hope to achieve more through protecting and promoting revolutionary heritage, advancing green energy, developing industries, and boosting trade and investment,” he said.

The signing event was held at RPF-Inkotanyi headquarters in Rusororo on Friday
