Chorale de Kigali adds World Music Day concert to choir’s calendar
Friday, June 20, 2025

Rwanda's renowned Catholic choir, Chorale de Kigali, will headline their inaugural "Voices in Harmony" concert celebrating the World Music Day on June 21, at Kigali Universe.

Valentin Bigango, the choir's vice president, revealed that the concert will become an annual fixture on the choir's calendar, running parallel to their established Christmas Carols concert series.

"This is a concert for World Music Day and has a different structure from our usual Christmas Carols concert,” Bugingo explained.

"This concert is specifically designed to celebrate World Music Day, meanwhile the Christmas Carols concert will also keep taking place with its own usual structure because the two concerts' structures are completely different."

The distinction between the two events is deliberate and purposeful. While the Christmas Carols concert will maintain its format and continue as scheduled, the World Music Day celebration offers something entirely different for music fans.

Kenny Mugarura, the event director at Kigali Universe which will host the concert, said it is a privilege hosting the choir to their venue for the first time on such a World Music Day occasion.

"It is a great honor to host this kind of concert for the first time, which changes the face of how we usually host other concerts, but we are ready to make it perfect for the audience," Mugarura said.

He emphasized the inclusive nature of the celebration, clarifying that this extends beyond religious boundaries. "It is not a concert for just Catholics but a celebration of World Music Day and an opportunity to have a good time for everyone who enjoys music.”

The concert&039;s innovative format sets it apart from conventional performances. Designed as a musical narrative, the show traces the evolution of music from its earliest origins to contemporary times.

This ambitious undertaking will unfold in multiple languages, with Kinyarwanda taking a prominent role in praising God and Rwanda.

Jean-Claude Hodari, the choir president said that the performance structure will serve as both entertaining and educating, offering audiences a comprehensive sketch of how music has developed throughout history.

Hodari addressed questions surrounding the choir's financial approach, particularly regarding their previous Christmas Carols concert at BK Arena. He emphasized that their choir operates with a mission that transcends monetary gain.

"Chorale de Kigali is not much focused on making profits from concerts because even the available venues like BK Arena that can accommodate all the choir's fans are expensive," he explained.

"Our members already have other sources of income. We are a non-profit organization and our mission is not to sell but to inspire others through our music," he stated.
