Scenes from the Amavubi-Algeria first leg match in the Amahoro Stadium. There are reports of crowd trouble in the second leg.

Editor,

I learnt that there were ugly clashes during the Amavubi - Algeria clash in Algiers a few days ago. Three policemen were injured and more than 70 spectators were also hurt.

However, I didn’t catch wind of this in any of our media outlets.

Did the New Times report this? Was it our fans who caused the trouble? Which might be the reason why there has been silence here?

How many of our people were hurt? Was the chaos a result of our loss? Were the scenes similar to the infamous ones during the Uganda - Rwanda game in Kampala a few years ago?

These are all questions that I feel must be answered by the relevant people.

In brief, we want to know what transpired at the stadium where our national team was playing but sadly lost and fans got hurt.

Eagerly awaiting a response.

Thanks for your letter. The reason we have not [yet] reported on what really happened is because we haven’t gathered credible information. As a media outlet, we need to get our facts right. But we’re on it.
