Chaka Chaka performs in Kigali

 South Africa’s top-selling female singer, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, arrived in Rwanda on Wednesday, night on invitation of Kigali City Council.

Also known as the "Princess of Africa” the South African born is scheduled to perform tomorrow at celebrations to mark Kigali City’s 100th anniversary at Amahoro National Stadium.

She was due to perform for a VIP  audience last night at Kigali Serena Hotel.

Chaka Chaka, who  is on his third performance tour of Rwanda, comes just hot on the heels of the death of Lucky Dube, one of the most celebrated reggae artistes of all time.

The South African music icon, who enjoyed an overwhelming following in Rwanda, was killed in an apparent carjacking in Rosettenville, Johannesburg.

Chaka Chaka’s entourage includes her 11-member band members, including her son, besides her manager.

Another foreign artist expected at the city’s celebrations is Uganda’s songbird Julian Kanyomozi, who was last in the country two weeks ago when she performed at a function to unveil Miss Kigali 2007.
