Rwanda Education Commons (REC), in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Rwanda National Examination Board (RNEC), have begun publishing past examination papers in the press in a bid to prepare students for the forthcoming national examinations.

According to the coordinator of REC, Eustochie Agasaro, the initiative is aimed at helping students who cannot easily access past papers to do so through the newspapers.

"We mainly wanted to help students deep in the villages who could not easily access the past papers to do so,” said Agasaro.

The programme began with the publishing of past papers from 2006 to 2008, for primary leavers and O-level.

"We decided to begin with these two levels because they are the ones whose examining style is still the same from 2006 up to date. We could not publish A-level past papers because the examining style has changed since the combinations began this year,” Agasaro said in an interview.

Papers being published in these series include Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and English.

Rwanda Education Commons is a pilot initiative of a continent-wide Africa Education Commons. The Africa Education Commons (AEC) aims to establish a pan-African network where stakeholders from government, NGOs, business, education institutions, and civil society come together to lay strategies for overcoming education challenges in Africa.
