WITH reigning champions APR already guaranteed a play-off slot, the contest for the remaining three places is down to four clubs; 2007 champions Marines, Espoir, National University of Rwanda (UNR) and United Basketball Generation (UGB).

UNR will host 2004 champions Espoir on Saturday while Marines will entertain UGB in Rubavu the following day.
APR secured their playoff berth last Sunday after edging Espoir 62-59.

The victory meant that APR for a second consecutive year finished the regular season unbeaten.

Although Espoir lost to APR, the mere fact that they pushed the champions to the brink will be good motivation as they battle UNR who were outscored by Marine 97-61 over the weekend.

Elsewhere, UGB kept their playoff hopes alive after a hard fought 48-47 over Kigali Institute of Technology (KIE).

Besides league champions, the local basketball federation (Ferwaba) has also tabled lucrative prizes for the top three teams in the men and women category.

"It’s going to be a bit different this year because we shall also award prizes to the top three teams in the men and women’s league,” Ferwaba’s first vice president Pierre Munyagabe said.

In the ladies fray, APR also top the table followed by UNR, ISAE and KIE.
