The Director General of National Post Office, Celestin Kayitare, has revealed that Post Office clients will be able to access information about registered mails on the institution’s website, through electronic tracking before end of year.

He made the revelation during a cocktail held in celebration to mark the World Post Day at Top Tower hotel.

"Before the year ends, we shall be notifying our clients about the details of registered mails on our website through electronic tracking,” Kayitare said.

The day that is celebrated annually, is aimed at checking the performance on quality of service provision towards development in about 191 countries that form the Universal Postal Union to which Rwanda is a member.

The director enlightened those present on various post office services, expressing both achievements and challenges since it started operating in the country.

He said formation of channels like EMS and E-commerce have contributed a lot towards improving service delivery among other factors.

However, he noted that a lot is needed to suit the recommendations of the UPU.

According to Kayitare the union recommends that at least every 9000 people should access postal services from a post office branch in the country.

He therefore added that for Rwanda’s population which is about ten million, 1111 post branches are required.
However, currently Rwanda has only 19 Post Office branches.

World Post Day marks the anniversary of the establishment of the United Nation’s Universal Postal Union.

Instituted in 1874, the union was designed to promote and coordinate postal policies among its member countries and ensure that services provided remain efficient.

This year, the day was celebrated under the theme ‘A postal service committed to green growth’.
