Central African Republic: Rwandan peacekeepers donate scholastic materials, pay school fees for children

Rwandan peacekeepers, serving under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) conducted a Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative to support local school children at Socatel M’Poko in Bangui, on June 5.

They distributed school supplies to 140 pupils and paid school fees for 32 pupils from vulnerable families, in an initiative that reflects the Rwandan contingent’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the welfare of local communities, particularly children.

The event was attended by key figures including Bonaventure Bate, the Headmaster of Kina Primary School, Ms. Françoise Ambasiyo, the Headmistress, MINUSCA staff, and Rwandan peacekeepers.

Bate expressed his profound gratitude for the support, noting that it provides renewed hope for children aspiring to contribute to their nation’s development.

The headmaster also commended Rwandan peacekeepers for their consistent efforts to uplift local communities.

Lt Col Alphonse Kigenza, the Commander of the Rwandan contingent (RWABATT-1), emphasized that the initiative aims to promote education and foster stronger ties between the peacekeepers and the local population. He said: "We want the children of this country to have a bright future through quality education. As peacekeepers, it is our duty to support local community.”

Kigenza highlighted education’s critical role as a foundation for peace and development.

This activity underscores the Rwandan peacekeepers’ dedication to not only maintaining peace and security in the Central African Republic but also advancing humanitarian and development goals through CIMIC initiatives.
