EMBATTLED National Athletics Federation secretary General Apollinaire Munyangoga has finally succumbed to pressure from the federation to resign after embezzling over Rwf0.7m collected from this year’s Kigali International Peace marathon.

The official, who is also a lecturer at Kigali Institute of Education, was given a deadline of September 30 to pay up the money and relinquish his post.

Constantin Twajamahoro, the Executive Secretary in the Federation confirmed that Munyangoga had indeed paid the money and tendered in his resignation.

"I have received bank slips of the money and he tendered in the resignation letter yesterday (Wednesday),” Twajamahoro said.

Jean Paul Munyandamutsa, the Athletics President welcomed Munyangoga’s resignation saying that there will be a general committee meeting this Sunday to plan for his replacement.

"It is good he has heeded to our advice to resign,” the Athletics boss said.About Rwf3.48m was raised from the concerts but Munyangoga only presented Rwf 2.71m.
