Veteran Ugandan forward Emmanuel Okwi has bid farewell to AS Kigali as he leaves the club after one season-courtesy

Experienced forward Emmanuel Okwi has left AS Kigali following the expiration of his one-year contract.

The former Uganda skipper joined the Citizens in July 2024 on a one-year deal and played a key role as they finished third in 2024/25 Rwanda Premier League. He scored 9 goals and provided 3 assists.

The veteran forward penned down an emotional farewell message to announce his departure as a free agent.

"What a season. Through all the ups and downs, we kept fighting and finished 3rd — a result that means a lot considering the challenges we faced," he posted on his social media accounts on Monday.

"I’m truly grateful to my teammates, coaches, staff, the fans, and especially our President for the unwavering support and belief. Thank you for making this journey possible. @askigali."

Okwi, 32, recently retired from international football and boyhood club SC Villa ramains his likely next destination.

He has also played for clubs including Simba, Yanga in Tanzania, Kiyovu in Rwanda and Al Ittihad among others.
