In reference to the publication that was made in The New Times paper of Saturday, 3rd October 2009 regarding the laid off Employees, I would like to make a clarification on the subject matter.

Public Service has been undergoing restructuring and MINECOFIN was not left out among others.

There is no reason as to why MINECOFIN should be singled out as having laid off its employees, but even then; The New Times Paper was wrongly informed that the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning laid off seventy eight employees in the restructuring process, information that is baseless!

On Wednesday, 30th September 2009, 92 employees out of 116 were re-confirmed as Minecofin’s employees including 14 senior managers who had been appointed by Cabinet. Only 21 Employees were referred back to the Ministry of Public Service and Labour and 3 other staff members were transferred to other ministries.

For this to be done, it was a process that was guided by set and agreed upon criteria which can always be obtained from the Ministry of Public Service and Labour.

Looking at the figures given above, the number of the retrenched employees is completely different from what The New Times reporter stated which was misleading and baseless.

Ange Mutesi, is the in charge of Public Relations and Communications, MINECOFIN.
