Byukusenge romps to Supa Tour of Kigali win

AFTER riding in the shadows of Adrien Niyonshuti and Abraham Ruhumuriza, two of Rwanda’s top cyclists, Nathan Byukusenge rose to the occasion to win yesterday’s Supa Tour of Kigali.

The Team Rwanda cyclist, who was riding for Cine El used 4 hours and 12 minutes.

After the victory, the 26-year-old attributed it his rewarding professional stint with South Africa’s MTN Enegrade.

"I think I have become a better cyclist after that stint I had in South Africa,” he said.

Four-time Tour of Rwanda champions finished second while Obed Ruvogera claimed the final podium finish.

Byukusenge received Rwf0.2m for the win while Ruhumuriza and Ruvogera pockets Rwf150,000 and Rwf100,000.

In the women’s category, Jeanette Uwimana claimed the day’s top prize.

Out of nine cyclists who started the race, only three managed to finish.
