WHILE APR made light work of Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) in the ladies final 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18), the men side had to dig deep before seeing off National University of Rwanda (UNR) in the final.

For large parts of the game, it could have gone either side as both teams fought tirelessly.  UNR, who were playing in their backyard, took the first set 25-23 but APR leveled proceedings with a second set victory 25-18.

In the third set, UNR rallied back into the lead 25-23 but the army side forced the game into a decisive set after claiming the fourth set 25-22.

APR, who played without their suspended coach Jean Luc Ndayikengurukiye finally broke loose to win the decider 15-10.

The winners in both categories walked away with Rwf0.3m while the first and second runners up settled for Rwf0.2m and Rwf0.1m.

Nine clubs took part in the two-day event which is held annually in honour of Alphonse Rutsindura, a former coach of the national women volleyball team, who was killed in the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.
