EPIPHANIE Nyirabarame yesterday earned Rwanda a third gold at the on-going Francophone Games in Beirut, Lebanon.

The two-time Olympian swept the 42.195km women marathon in a descent time of 2 hours, 44 minutes and 36 seconds.

France’s Roche Adeline claimed silver after clocking 3 hours, three minutes and 18 seconds.

It was a top notch performance from the 28-year-old who settled for bronze four years ago.

Nyirabarame’s gold adds to those from Claudette Mukasakindi and Dieudonne Disi. Mukasakindi defied the odds to win Friday’s 10,000m while Disi held off a late challenge from Morocco’s Anis Selmuoni to win Thursday’s 10,000m.

In the men’s marathon, Felix Ntirenganya secured Rwanda’s second silver of the Games after clocking 2 hours, 24 minutes and 23 seconds.

The first and third podium places were claimed by Moroccans; Zaid Laroussi (2:24:08) and Ahmed Nasif (2:24:44).

In creative dance, Rwanda finished second to Mauritius while France followed closely in third place.
