As part of their study trip to the country, Students of Islamic University of Uganda (IUIU) yesterday visited the Rwanda Defense Forces headquarters.

Speaking to the delegation, RDF head of research and development,  Col Charles Karamba, said  that the current achievements of the force have been attained due to a deliberate effort to create a professional army that is also sensitive to the country’s overall challenges.

"We chose to professionalize the army, it’s a process and we still have a lot to work on, but we believe we shall get there because a disciplined and relevant army is what our country needs,” he remarked

He took them through the processes the force has underwent in evolving to become what it is today; such as the demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatants, and the social transformation activities like building roads and houses for vulnerable groups which the force undertook in the recently concluded army week.

He added that as part of contributing to regional stability RDF is also involved in partnerships with other regional forces to form a solid front which would combat any form of disaster in any of the member countries.

One of the visiting students Idd Sibomana, commended the progressive steps being taken by RDF of not only restoring peace and stability to the country, but also contributing to solving people’s social problems.
