MUSANZE - The visiting Kenyan delegation from Eldoret Municipal Council, currently on a ten-day visit to Rwanda has toured several development projects in Musanze District.

The 40 members led by William K Rono, on Wednesday visited the Gashaki model sector (Vision 2020 Umurenge) the Susa Mudugudu (settlement) and the Kenya Commercial Bank in Musanze town.

Rono explained that they are in the country to study the Rwandan process of unity and reconciliation and its applicability in Kenya after the post election violence that has rocked the country.

He added that Eldoret which was hard hit still faces a challenge of uniting its people.

"We had over 300, 000 internally displaced persons in Eldoret, people had fled their families, and up to now some still fear to return to their homes,” Rono said.

He commended Rwanda’s efforts to restore peace and security while fostering unity and peaceful co-existence among its people.

He said this was a demonstration that the citizens had learnt a big lesson from the past mistakes.

The visitors noted that the way local leaders get involved in the development projects was worth emulating.

Speaking about the District Development Plans-DDP, Mayor Celestin Kalabayinga, told the visitors that the district tries to balance national and local needs.
