RULINDO - Members of the Rulindo District Executive Committee have committed themselves to work with security authorities to mitigate security threats in the district.

Speaking at a security meeting this week, the Mayor Justus Kangwagye said there has to be a lasting solution to escalating crime incidences in the district.

This meeting must come up with a lasting solution to murder incidences, theft and domestic violence which have rocked the district of late,” he said.

The remarks follow last week’s incidence where a motorcyclist Onesphore Ntibiringirwa of Cyinzuzi Sector was killed and his body dumped in a pit latrine.

The meeting resolved to step up night patrols across villages as part of efforts to curb crimes. "Local Defence personnel should work hand in hand with residents to guarantee security in every cell,” the members said.

The meeting attributed cases of domestic violence in the area to illegal local potent gin (kanyanga). "Measures should be put in place to curb the sale and consumption of Kanyanga, through administering harsh punishments to those caught in the act,” added Kangwagye.

Local leaders reported that text books have recently been stolen at Rukozo Primary School but no suspects have been arrested.

The leaders added that stray dogs, which bite people and domestic animals, have become a menace in Buyoga Sector, and residents were urged to work hand in hand with sector veterinary officers and grass root authorities to eliminate the dogs.
