Kiyovu SC edge Rutsiro to climb to seventh place

SC Kiyovu came from behind to beat Rutsiro FC 2-1 at Kigali Pele Stadium on Friday, climbing to seventh place in the Rwanda Premier League with 37 points.

Eric Kwizera gave Rutsiro an early lead in the 18th minute, but Kiyovu responded in the second half as Darcy Mutunzi equalized in the 47th minute, scoring his sixth goal of the season.

Kiyovu missed a chance to go ahead in the 51st minute when striker Kevin Ishimwe failed to convert a penalty, with Rutsiro goalkeeper Jean Paul Itangishatse making the save.

Substitute Mosengo Tansele netted the winner in the 75th minute, securing three crucial points for the Mumena-based side.

The win was a relief for Kiyovu fans, whose team had languished at the bottom of the table for much of the season.

Since February, the Green Baggies have staged an impressive comeback, winning seven, drawing one, and losing just once in their last eight matches.

Kiyovu’s final two fixtures are against Amagaju FC, currently second from bottom and also fighting relegation, and Bugesera FC.
