NYANZA – Residents have applauded the local authority’s programmes of giving Nyanza a new face pointing out the renovation efforts which they say have improved hygiene and sanitation in the area.

Early this year, district authorities in conjunction with residents of the town embarked on a rebuilding programme as part of efforts to give the town a facelift.

As a result, old houses have been rehabilitated and new ones erected. Street lamps have also been installed and town cleaning efforts reinforced.

According to residents, the rehabilitation of old houses and the construction of new ones is good for business.
Sirdio Gasana, who works in "Bar la Carrefour’ said that since the renovation of the bar, the number of its clients has been rising due to its new look.

"The level of our clientele has grown tremendously ever since we opened our  new look bar”, he said.
Residents who talked to The New Times revealed that the relocation programme which centered on relocating residential areas out of the central business district was in itself a good move.

"To live into town you need to have the capacity to satisfy the requirements of living there,” stated a Nyanza resident only identified as Schadrack.

The district mayor Abdallah Murenzi called upon residents to put more efforts in sanitation and hygiene at home and at their places of work.
