Australian MPs visit Gisozi

The Australian parliamentary delegation over the weekend visited Gisozi memorial site and laid a wreath in honour of victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi.

The delegation described what they saw as "unbelievable” and acknowledged government’s efforts restore order and economic prosperity to the nation.

They also added that what they saw at the site is different from what they were reading from the media, accusing the forth estate of doing little to portray the realities of what happened in Rwanda.

The Australian MPs are on a one week visit to the country and expected to visit the two parliamentary chambers.

RPF congress in Kanombe discuss achievements

The Rwanda Patriotic Front congress in Kanombe sector in Kicukiro district on Monday met at Hilltop hotel to discuss the tremendous achievements registered by the party for the past one year.

The members also took the opportunity to lay strategies for the next year.

Among the achievements recognized included maintaining road construction, having clean water and maintaining health activities in the sector.

FDLR attacks Congolese army

Violent fighting erupted early on Sunday morning between the FARDC and the FDLR in the territory of Rutshuru, about 100 kilometers north of Goma in the province of North Kivu. According to local sources, the fighting resulted into deaths and injuries on both sides.

Police sources indicate that the FDLR were first to attack from the hills and burnt the camp of FARDC soldiers. The fighting lasted one hour.
