Twenty state prosecutors on Monday took oath of office in a function that was presided over by Prime Minister Bernard Makuza.

Those sworn-in include five prosecutors at the Intermediary Level and 15 at the Primary Level.

During the function, Makuza appealed to new prosecutors to execute their duties with utmost professionalism to ensure that they are not engaged in any form of illegal act.
"The oath you have just taken is your first step into practicing law; through the interviews you sat for, you proved the ability to practice law, I urge you to commit yourselves to the profession and ensure that you boost your career,” Makuza told the prosecutors.

"You have now engaged yourselves in a bond with the entire country; you have to work hard for the benefit of the general public and the country.” 

The Premier urged the prosecutors to join hands in the fight against corruption and embezzlement of public funds a vice that has of recent seen several senior government officials sent to jail.

He said; "We want a crime free society and you have a prime role in ensuring this.”

The swearing in was attended by the Minister of Justice Tharcisse Karugarama, the Minister in charge of Cabinet Affairs Protais Musoni, Information Minister Louise Mushikiwabo and the Prosecutor General Martin Ngoga.
