A 25-year old man identified as Edison Nkubana is in police custody in eastern Rwanda after trying to kill his mother and his step siblings over property.

Nkubana had just returned from prison serving a five-month jail term for assault when he pounced on his mother with a panga.

The mother escaped the ordeal following an intervention from neighbours.

It was however, only when the police forced him out of the house as he wielded the panga.

According to neighbours, Nkubana had been accusing his mother and his siblings of taking his father’s property when they are not of the same ethnicity as him.
