This activity is for all children who love reading books. Make a cute centipede that remembers each book you have read. With every new book, the Reading Bug grows longer.

Materials

One large lid plastic container lid (get a NIDO or Nestle Nesquick lid), permanent markers, glue, crayons, pencil, safety scissors, manila paper in different colors and two tiny straws.

How to make it

1. Pick a location for the Reading Bug. Make sure there enough room for it to grow!

2. Cut six to 10 circles out of the manila paper. You can add more circles as your bug grows.

3. Using permanent markers, draw a funny bug face on the surface of the round lid.
  4. Center one of the circles to the back of the bug face and glue it in place.
  
5. Use the two tiny straws for the bug’s antennae. Glue them just above the bug’s eyes.

6. Each time you completed a book, write the name of the book and the date it was finished on one of the circles.

7. Tell your parents to make a small hole at the bottom of the bug’s face and on a circle. Use a thread to attach the first circle to the bug’s face

8. Add the second circle to the first by overlapping them slightly. As the Reading Bug grows, attach it to a wall or notice board for everyone to see the books you have read. This will motivate you and your friends to read more books to improve on your reading.
