Sunday, May 11, 2025

Police women’s volleyball club won their first national volleyball league championship after a hard-fought victory over APR in four sets (25-23, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22) in Game 3 of the best-of-three finals series at Petit Stade on Sunday, May 11.

Christian Hatumimana’s side had to recover from Game 1 loss to even the series with a tiebreak victory in Game 2 on Saturday before completing the comeback on Sunday in style.

Police started the game aggressively and claimed the opening set 25-23 before APR responded to take second set 25-20 and go level in the game.

But Police stayed calm as setter Iris Ndagijimana orchestrated precise plays for left hitters Catherine Ainembabazi and Sande Melidinah Nemali to secure the third set 25-23 and the fourth 25-22 to claim the title.

This marks Police’s first championship only after two seasons competing in the national women’s volleyball league.

"This was a victory that we have been fighting for. Thanks to all my players for their contributions," coach Hatumimana told Times Sport.
