BUGESERA—Five people were last Friday arrested in Mayange sector in connection with murder of a fellow resident, the sector executive secretary has said.

François Nkurunziza said Ndayisaba, François Ugiriwe, Gracien, Bernard Habanabashaka, and Sylvie Hakyizimana—all residents of Mayange—were detained at Nyamata police station on November 9 over allegations of murdering Gaspard Habaguhirwa of Kagenge cell.

Police confirmed the arrests and said investigations were underway. By press time the body had been taken to Bugesera hospital for a postmortem.

Nkurunziza said the exact date of the death of the deceased was not known but residents found his decomposing body dumped in the swamp on the boundaries of River Cyohoha last Friday.

The deceased had reportedly gone missing since November 4 in the evening, the day he was reportedly picked from his home by Ndadaye, allegedly to go for a ‘lucrative deal’ and it was after until the following day of no-return that anxious residents mounted the search.

This is the second death of its kind in Mayange within a period of one month, the last one having been in October when unknown assailants attacked and killed a woman, Specioza Ugiriwabo, a resident of Kibenga cell.
