BY EDWIN MUSONI Police emergency personnel and residents of Kamutwa Cell in Kacyiru Sector recovered a woman’s dead body from a three-meter deep trench on Wednesday. The woman, believed to have been in her 20s, is suspected to have been strangled by unknown assailants many days before the discovery of her body.The body was discovered by a street kid who wanted to find out what caused stench from the trench.Ceaser Habumugisha, 13, the street boy who found the body said that he used to visit the trench but he had spent sometime.Habumugisha narrated: "I was passing by the trench and I smelt something stinking, I went into the trench to find out, when I reached down I found a dead body."I got so scared and screamed, I came out of the trench and informed people about it, they later came and removed the body.”He added that the body had deep damages on the head and the neck. Flies covered the whole trench where the body was found in dirty water.Jean Baptiste Ngeruka, a witness at the scene said that the woman was putting on a red blouse and black skirt."The skirt was up and you could easily see the knickers. She was putting on a medical rubber glove on one arm,” Ngeruka said.Police Spokesman Marcel Higiro confirmed the incident and said that the body was removed around midday.Higiro said: "There was a rope around the wrest of the lady, she had been cut in the neck and putting on a glove on one arm. "The body was in a terrible condition that it could not be kept and the local authorities requested to burry the body.”Higiro however said that though postmortem examinations were not carried out, police would still carryout investigations."Unfortunately, we do not have any case of a missing person with the same futures, but we are trying to carry out investigations and find the killers and relatives of the deceased,” Higiro said.The body was removed by the police fire brigade, officers from the CID and Remera police station. At the scene, there were two jackets suspected to have belonged to the killers. However, the police did not take the items found at the scene.Another witness who preferred anonymity said: "The police decided to take the body to Remera Cemetery for burial immediately because it was in a poor condition.” He added that police did not carryout postmortem which may hinder investigations.Meanwhile another witness at the scene said that another body was found in the same trench last month. A baby was also once saved from the same trench.The trench is commonly known to be a dumping site of dead dogs. Ends
