NYAMAGABE - The district last week announced that it has sacked 17 workers for under performance and lack of relevant qualifications.

The Mayor Alphonse Munyentwari, in an interview with The New Times said that the decision followed an evaluation exercise carried out by the district executive committee, over a period of six months.

"The evaluation found out that 15 workers were holding positions which they were not qualified for, so we had no option but to relieve them of their duties. In this we will seek for people competent in these fields,” he said.

The Mayor noted that the majority of the workers attained the minimum mark of over 70 percent except two, who have since been arrested for corruption and abuse of office.

"The new recruitment guidelines indicate that the minimum requirement for this position is a Law degree. Only one sector out of 17 met this requirement, this means that all these positions will be open for recruitment,” Munyentwari said.

Meanwhile, two officials have been arrested in connection with embezzlement of funds and abuse of office in the district.

The two are  Godebert Mukangabo, an accountant of Gatare Sector and Balthazar Munyaneza, the Executive Secretary of Buhoro Cell in Tare Sector.

Mukangabo is accused of embezzling over Rwf10 million which she allegedly received from taxes but never deposited in the district account.

"The money accumulated over time. She would deposit half the money she got as taxes and keep the rest for herself, a preliminary audit shows about Rwf10million missing,” said Jean Pierre Nshimyimana, the District Executive Secretary.

Munyaneza is accused of diverting materials meant to construct houses for the needy in his sector and other cases of abuse of office especially in handling third category Gacaca cases -which involve compensation of property lost during the Genocide.
