RUSIZI - Legislators have called upon health personnel in Rusizi District to promote high standards of hygiene at their respective facilities.

The lawmakers on a working visit to the Western province are Speciose Mukandutiye, Dr. Ezekiyasi Rwabuhihi and Eugenie Hureriya, who are members of the Health and Social Affairs commission in Parliament.

They were addressing medical practitioners at Mibilizi Hospital, over the weekend.

MP Mukandutiye, who led the delegation, implored medical personnel at the hospital to always deliver quality services to the patients.

She further asked medics to sensitise residents on critical issues such as health insurance, voluntary HIV/AIDS testing and family planning in order to have a healthier working nation.

"Depending on what we have observed there is a big change in as far as improving the living standards of residents of Rusizi is concerned. However, we urge you to put much effort to strengthen the health sector in this region,” Mukandutiye said.

Jules Gahamanyi, the director of health in the district, said inadequate medical equipment at various health facilities is their major challenge.
