Please stop spitting on the roadside

Editor,

As a resident of Kibagabaga, it is with great joy that I often walk or run on the Nyarutarama and Golf Course Club roads.

Thanks to the Kigali City Council, there are now pavements and lightning and exercising has really become easy even late in the evening.

But this joy is being affected by this habit of spitting of most of the pedestrians. One always has to watch out not to receive any spit either from the pedestrians or even from the passengers in the commercial buses.

If you are always in your car and do not share this pavement with pedestrians, you might not understand the frustration that one has to go through with the spitting habit of many people in town.

This morning for instance, I almost received a big spit on my face and this man didn’t feign any sign of apology. I guess he didn’t even know that he has done something wrong.

As I know that the majority of these pedestrians do not have access to your newspaper and might not read this article, I’m respectfully calling upon the local authorities to do something about this issue.

People need to be sensitized that we are in a big city and that they cannot just spit anyhow they feel like. Let’s all be part of the improvement of the image of our cities through good manners.

Thanking you all in advance for doing something on this issue.
