GATSIBO — Scores of teachers drawn from different primary and secondary schools in Gatsibo district are undergoing a four-day training on quality teaching skills.

The training, organized by Plan International Rwanda, attracted 224 teachers at three training sites at  Lycee de Muhura, Kabarore and Kiziguro secondary schools.

In an interview with The New Times, Plan Rwanda’s learning advisor in Gatsibo district, Alfred Mupenzi, said the training intends to boost the teachers’  quality teaching skills. He added that those trained will train others.

‘One of Plan Rwanda’s  vision is to help the government to develop quality education by assisting with training competitive teachers as well. We have trained teachers mainly in the general teaching and learning methodologies and those trained will train others in their respective schools,’ he said.

Mupenzi added that the training was timely as it was meant to boost the professional standards of teachers especially those in primary school levels.

‘We hope that this  package  will sharpen the competencies of the trainees,’ he said.

Anastaziya Iraguha, a teacher at Gasange secondary school in Muhura sector is not a trained teacher by profession. She however said that the training will transform her into a better and more practical teacher.

‘I have been teaching for the last 9 years but I am not formally trained.  I am very optimistic that such training packages will help me become one of the skilled teachers who will in the  near future provide quality education to Rwandans,’ she said.

The director of education in Gatsibo district, Gregoire Kanyemera, said that Plan Rwanda has been helping the district in solving many challenges in education and the training is an added support on what they have already offered.
