Kaya Byinshii to host second music residency show

Kaya Byinshii is a talented Rwandan singer, songwriter, and actress.

Renowned Rwandan singer, songwriter, and actress Kaya Byinshii continues her quest to transform Kigali’s nightlife and music scene with yet another live music residency slated for May 15 at Mundi Center.

According to Byinshii, the residency, aptly titled ‘Live Nyinshii’ which translates to ‘A lot of Live’, promises to create an immersive and dynamic space where both musicians and the audience come alive through powerful live performances, happening twice a month.

A concert residency, also known as musical residency or simply residency, is a series of concerts, similar to a concert tour, but only performed at one location. Pollstar Awards defined residency as a run of 10 or more shows at a single venue.

"The residency offers an eclectic mix of genres, including jazz, blues, soul, reggae, experimental, and original music, all designed to foster intimate connections between my band, the audience, and me," said Kaya Byinshii, adding, "Local and international guest performers will occasionally bring a unique flair to the experience. The singer announces the return of the live show days after dropping her latest song "Folie Douce," which invites listeners to embrace life’s chances and adventures, influenced by the mystery of time and space.

Tickets for the residency show are ready for grabs at Rwf10,000 (early birds) and Rwf13,000 (at gate).

Kaya Byinshii was born and raised in Rwanda and strongly believes in the spiritual power of music who has a number of major achievements to her name

Notable highlights of her career include composing music for the La Curiosité documentaries, sharing stages with legendary jazz artists Erik Truffaz and Kahil El-Zabar, opening the Musique Métisses Festival 2024, and performing at the Kigali Triennial 2024, curated by renowned artist Khadja Nin.

She also performed at ACCES 2024. Her 2023 Africa Tour took her across ten cities, including Algiers, Oran, Annaba, Addis Ababa, Kampala, Djibouti, and Nairobi, further cementing her influence in the African music scene.

With a strong foundation in blues, roots, and expressionism of human behavior, Kaya’s compositions offer deep spiritual inspiration, weaving emotions, storytelling, and universal themes into her music.
