KIGALI - Benoit Kaboyi, the Executive Secretary of the 1994 Genocide survivors’ association, Ibuka, has called for more interaction with Genocide survivors.

He said this gives them comfort and is  what they  need the most.

Kaboyi was reacting to a Riviera High School students’ drama which was performed for visiting Genocide survivors living in Icyizere settlement (Umudugudu w’Icyizere) in Kanombe sector, Kicukiro District.

"Leave alone the material things, interacting with Genocide survivors is a sign of solidarity, it comforts them,” Kaboyi said yesterday.

He added that the drama was an exercise that would also make the young generation from privileged families recognize problems in the country and also know the impact of the1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

He called upon other schools to emulate Riviera High School and adopt a humanitarian spirit underscoring that the country is expecting a lot from the young generation.

"Those are some of the good values we promote in this country,” Kaboyi said.

Led by Global Trustees for Unity and Peace Volunteers (GTUPV), the Hope for the Future Club from Riviera High School, after interacting with the survivors, also donated food stuffs estimated at Rwf100,000.

The president of GTUPV, Baker Gasatura, said that his organisation aims at empowering and encouraging the youth to perform such humanitarian acts.

Gasatura says that Rivera High School is one the schools they have worked with in similar projects.

About 50 families, orphans and widows, live in Icyizere settlement , which was built with the District’s support in 2006.
