KAYONZA – Rwanda Rural Rehabilitation Initiative (RWARRI) an NGO has held a training session to enable local farmers prepare for the planting season by embracing modern methods of farming. The demonstration meeting brought together farmers and the extension workers from Rwanda and Kenya.

Speaking at the occasion, John Bideri, the coordinator of RWARRI project based in Kayonza, told farmers the importance of preparing land well in advance of the incoming rainy season.

"I have been in several countries around the world, and especially those neighbouring us.

They do not have anything special that we don’t have. What we miss is the desired seriousness to work. Let us today forge a way forward to achieve meaningful agriculture production,” said Bideri.

Kayonza district agriculture officer, Emmanuel Ngezahumremye further advised farmers to always heed to advice they get from specialists.

On the issue of land consolidation, the specialists advised farmers to prepare the land using modern methods such as tractors that can till the land deep enough.

"The hand hoe is not good enough. Consequently its use doesn’t allow proper penetration of water and other resources necessary for plant growth,” said an agriculture officer to the farmers during the meeting.

Rwanda Rural Rehabilitation Initiative (RWARRI) is a non-profit making and non governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to the promotion and improvement of social-economic welfare of rural communities in Rwanda.

Its main intervention is its use as a flexible catalyst for promoting new ways of championing innovations within rural dwellers.
