THE draws for this year’s Cecafa Challenge Cup have been set for October reports Bonnie Mugabe.

According to the regional body’s Secretary General Nicholas Musonye (pic),  the draws will be held on October 18 in Nairobi, Kenya.

"We will hold the draws on October 18, a few weeks before the Cup.”

The Challenge Cup, which also counts as the oldest football tourney in Africa, was officially launched in Nairobi yesterday, ending any doubts about the tournament being hosted in Kenya.

"We have no doubt that Kenya will host a successful Challenge Cup tournament. Everything was on track,” Musonye added.

Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, Eritrea, Djibouti, and Zanzibar are all expected to compete in the tournament which is schedule to run from November 23 to December 13.

Preliminary matches will be jointly held in Nairobi and Mumias.
Two groups will be based in Nairobi while the third will be at the Mumias Complex.

It is the first time in 17 years that the Senior Challenge Cup is being held in Kenya. A total of 26 matches will be played during the two weeks.
