Editor,

"Wise men learn from their mistakes but wiser men learn from other people’s mistakes”. This saying is relevant for Rwanda on the issue of monarchy restoration.

Rwanda has had discussions on whether to restore the monarchy or not.

I am glad the traditional leaders and kingdoms are not functional in Rwanda today.

In Kampala, over 40 people could have died in just two days of the Buganda Kingdom vs Central Government related  conflict, while hundreds were hospitalized or imprisoned and millions of dollars in business lost.

Uganda’s leadership is under international scrutiny because of the terrible events. In Busoga, succession disputes have deeply divided the Basoga and bloodshed can occur.

Rwanda will save herself all this strife if the monarchial system is kept in the closet.
