URUGWIRO VILLAGE - The Cabinet meeting chaired by President Paul Kagame yesterday froze current prices of land in Kigali City.
The prices, which were set by the Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, Stanislas Kamanzi, had led to a rise in speculation, some plots shooting up by as much as ten times their actual value.
The government set up a task force to draw up new guidelines and rates. In the meantime, the old rates will apply.
This after a recent RPF Political Bureau meeting, it emerged that the skyrocketing of prices of land in the city was scaring away investors.
The same cabinet meeting also endorsed Dr. David Himbara to head a taskforce that will restructure Rwanda Development Board (RDB).
Himbara will be assisted by Agnes Kayitankore and Vichit Ith.
The Cabinet approved Nguyen Buy Thien as the Vietnamese Ambassador to Rwanda, while Yusuf Mugiraneza was appointed as the new Executive Secretary of Eastern Province.
