NYANZA - SWAA-Rwanda, one of the community based organisations in Nyanza District has urged foster parents to desist from mistreating adopted children.

Addressing a seminar attended by over 50 police officers and foster parents last week, Vénansie Mukagatare, the field officer of SWAA-Rwanda in Nyanza District, said parents need to treat all children equally.

"The police usually deal with cases of domestic violence and child abuse. That is why they have to be equipped with the necessary knowledge about those issues so that they can succeed in ensuring justice and security,” Mukagatare said.

During the two-day seminar, participants were briefed on children’s rights, forms of domestic violence and child abuse.

The trainees are expected to carry out an assessment on the situation of orphans and other vulnerable children in the district.
