Two arrested for torturing minors

Police in Musanze District have arrested two people for allegedly torturing minors in two separate incidences.J Damascene Nkurikiyinka, of Remera sector, was accused of forcefully making his 5 year old son stand on burning wood burning the boy seriously.

Police in Musanze District have arrested two people for allegedly torturing minors in two separate incidences.

J Damascene Nkurikiyinka, of Remera sector, was accused of forcefully making his 5 year old son stand on burning wood burning the boy seriously.

He is currently admitted at Ruhengeri Hospital.  
Speaking from the police stattion, the accused defended his actions by saying that he was fed up with the boy’s habit of loitering all over the village.  

"The boy had become unruly, he moved from family to family in the village, I tried to stop him and failed that is why I decided to give him that kind of punishment,’’ Nkurikiyinka said. 

In a separate incident, another woman identified as Petronia Nyirakamana was arrested after she burnt her 6-year old son’s arm accusing him of banana theft.  

According to article 32 of the penal code , torturing children attracts between 4 months and three years sentence upon conviction.
