KAYONZA/ RWAMAGANA — At least 227 people were arrested in a major pre-dawn operation conducted by security organs and local leaders, in Rwamagana and Kayonza districts, last Saturday.

According to police, those arrested include suspected petty criminals and those who were not found with proper identification documents.

"It was an extremely successful operation which sent a clear message out to the criminals within the area. It has proved that by working together with our partners and by utilizing resources available, local problems can be solved,” security officials said.

Police commended the public for cooperating with them to impound drugs and stolen property. "With their continued help we can make a real difference,” security officials said.
The operation follows various security meetings that had identified crime spots in the two districts.

"We have impounded local gin [Kanyanga] and some other illegal  liquor from DRC, known as Furaha and marijuana.

These people you see here, apprehended by security organs , are the trouble makers in our areas,” Valerie Nsenga Rubibi, the Kigabiro Sector Executive Secretary, in Rwamagana said, as he paraded those nabbed in the swoop.

Meanwhile, in  a related operation in Kayonza, trouble rousing street children, were rounded up and briefly held at Mukarange Police Station.

The minors , who were later released, were sensitised and warned against engaging in criminal activities.
"These minors have been known to break the law.

They smoke marijuana and drink Kanyanga, hence ending up as criminals. We have warned them and if they don’t heed our advice, we shall definitely take stern action against them,” said the security officials.
