Communicate, update your website

As the wave of technology and internet swept through, many organisations both private and public opened up web sites to communicate with their audiences.

Now that the number of internet users in Rwanda and abroad is increasing by the day, having a website to promote your ideas or business is imperative.

The great thing about the internet is that it can reach the whole world, and not just your neighbourhood. Thus, if you have anything to sell or anything to say, everyone can get to know about it.

It is the most workable tactic to broadcast your organisation’s achievement, capability, and products or services.

In order to realize all of your objectives for building a website, it is necessary that the website is constantly updated.

Every Ministry in Rwanda operates a website which is a great move, however, surfing through their pages, it is embarrassing to find that a lot of the information provided is outdated.

Each year, government institutions such as the ministries carry out various activities, produce reports, conduct surveys and have lots of current information about them.

But when you visit their websites, the most current annual report you would find is for 2006, or the activities being show cased are months old.

Does this mean that no annual reports have been produced since then? Or does it mean that no new activities have been carried out recently? Certainly not, but that’s the message these institutions are sending out.

Updating your website provides your audience with fresh information and news. Thus, shows that you are working well and your institution is prospering, as is now often used as an indicator of your work.

There is no doubt that the more frequently you update your website the better the impression you have on your visitors.

The heads of these institutions should consider their websites a top priority since they are the institutions gate way to the world. Gone are the days when researchers, academics or even journalists would have to travel miles to get information.

With Rwanda continuously progressing and statistics rapidly changing, we risk sending out in accurate information.
