APR 69-64 REG

Malian star center Aliou Diarra scored 18 points to power APR to a 69-64 hard fought victory over Rwanda Energy Group (REG) at Petit Stade on Friday night to keep their lead at the ongoing Rwanda Basketball League.

Shooting guard Jordan Mcrae added 16 points while power forward William Robeyns contributed 10 points as James Maye Jr’s team completed a double over REG.

Small forward Prince Muhizi was in his top form but his game high 20 points weren’t enough to spare his team from the defeat at the hands of the Rwandan champions.

REG started the game leading in the first quarter 16-10, but they failed to keep the momentum, losing the second quarter 20-8 and the third 17-11as APR fought back to lead the scores. REG won the final quarter 27-22 final quarter but they couldn’t achieve the comeback.

Elsewhere, Tigers beat Orion 80-70 to get in third place with 19 points while APR still lead the table of the league with 28 points.
