NYAGATARE - The business community in Nyagatare town has asked the district to speed up the construction of a new modern market.

Talking to The New Times, the traders claimed that the old market where they operate from has a poor drainage system and sanitation.

"We make general cleaning before starting business every morning but the environment is not clean.

The district should help us build a modern market as soon as possible, we are ready to contribute towards the construction for the sake of our businesses,” Sarah Mwamini, one of the traders said.

There is a lot of dust from the unpaved ground and a stench comes out from the old toilets, another trader said.

When contacted, Ahumadu Rukwangu, the head of Nyagatare market acknowledged the problem, but said it will soon be solved.

"We have discussed with different stake holders about the issue and currently we have started constructing toilets that will replace the old ones to avoid a health disaster,” he said.
