RWANDA’S tennis players Jean Claude Gasigwa and Dieudonne Habiyambere suffered early exits at the on-going ITF Burundi Men’s Futures in Bujumbura.

Rwanda’s top seed Gasigwa was the first to fall after a 2-6, 2-6 first round defeat against Great Britain’s Richard Brooks.

Brooks did not stop their as he also knocked out Habiyambere in the next round 6-3 6-1 to storm the quarter-finals.

By press time, Rwanda’s only surviving player Olivier Nkunda was gearing up for a tough contest against Mohammed Mohazebnia of Iran who boosts of an ATP ranking of 979.

Nkunda, who is a wild card entry in the one-week event, is currently ranked 1752.

The highest ranked player in the $10000 tournament is Czech’s Adam Vejmelka who stands in 478.

From Burundi, the players travel to Kigali for the second leg (September 14-20).
