The outgoing Mexican Ambassador to Rwanda, Hon. Carlos Cue-Vegas, has committed his government’s support towards the preservation of the remains of victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

The revelation was made Friday during the Ambassador’s visit to the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide, where he had gone to bid farewell to the commission’s Executive Secretary, Jean de Dieu Mucyo.

During the meeting the two discussed the continuation of cooperation between the National Institute of History and Anthropology of Mexico and the CNLG in preserving the Genocide remains at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre. 

Mucyo, expressed his satisfaction with the report on the research done by two Mexican experts on the Genocide victims remains conservation.

"I was very impressed by the quality, recommendations and advice they provided in the report,” he said.

The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the conference on Human Remains Preservation which will take place in Kigali, in October.

This conference will bring together experts from all over the world.

The Executive Secretary requested the Ambassador to facilitate the two experts to come back and participate in the conference.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will be signed between these two institutions.

This will also provide an opportunity to send to Mexico some staff members of the National Commission for the Fight against Genocide and the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre for training on the preservation of human remains.
