World Cup 2026 Qualifiers CAF zone Group C leaders South Africa are facing forfeit after fielding an ineligible player in their 2-0 win over Lesotho on Friday, March 21.
This comes after Lesotho FA on Tuesday confirmed that they are considering filing an appeal Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos used midfielder Teboho Mokoena in their match against the Crocodiles of Lesotho while he was supposed to serve a one-game suspension from his two yellow cards accumulated against Benin and Zimbabwe.

The Mamelodi Sundowns star was booked in the 54th minute in the 2-1 win over Benin on November 18, 2023 and also received another yellow card in the 52nd minute as South Africa beat Zimbabwe 3-1 on June 11, 2024.
The Lesotho FA Secretary-General Mokhosi Mohapi confirmed that they are in the process of filing a case to FIFA and CAF which could see South Africa lose the game by forfeit (3 points and 3 goals)
"The issue is, did a rule get breached? If so, we are fully within our rights to protest and demand the points,” he told SowetanLIVE
A defeat by forfeit for South Africa could see Rwanda topping the group if they beat Lesotho even if Bafana Bafana wins against Benin.
